Men’s Urology Care: Erectile Dysfunction, Low Testosterone, and Compounded Options at Pharmaconic

Erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, an enlarged prostate, and an overactive bladder are among the most common reasons men see a urologist, and all of them are treatable. The hard part is often not the diagnosis but what comes after: a prescription that is denied, delayed by a prior authorization, or priced out of reach at the counter.

Pharmaconic is a Queens and Long Island pharmacy that fills urology prescriptions with flat, predictable pricing, no prior authorization, and free delivery to your door within 24 hours. This post explains the conditions your urologist may be treating, the medications we carry for them, and the compounded options available when a standard product is not the right fit.

Erectile Dysfunction: Common, Treatable, and Not a Normal Part of Aging

Erectile dysfunction (ED) means being unable to get or keep an erection firm enough for sex. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, ED is not a routine part of getting older, and it often points to something else going on, such as circulation problems, diabetes, low testosterone, stress, or a side effect of another medication. That is why your urologist evaluates the cause first, then treats the symptom.

The American Urological Association recommends oral PDE5 inhibitors as first-line treatment for most men. Pharmaconic stocks both:

  • Sildenafil (generic Viagra) tablets: 20 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg
  • Tadalafil (generic Cialis) tablets: 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg

Pay no more than $24 for 30 tablets. No prior authorization, no waiting for an insurance decision.

When tablets are not the right fit

Some men cannot take oral PDE5 inhibitors (for example, those on nitrate heart medications), some do not respond to them, and some have trouble swallowing tablets. For these patients, your urologist can prescribe a compounded preparation made at our Forest Hills compounding pharmacy:

  • Sildenafil 22 mg or tadalafil 8.5 mg oral transmucosal films, which dissolve against the cheek or under the tongue
  • Sildenafil/tadalafil troches, a lozenge that dissolves in the mouth
  • Trimix injection (10/30/1 mcg or 40/30/2 mcg per mL, 5 mL vials), a combination of papaverine, phentolamine, and alprostadil that your urologist may recommend when oral medications have not worked
  • Alprostadil injection (500 mcg/mL, 2 mL)

Compounded medications are prepared to a prescription written specifically for you and are not FDA-approved finished products. Your urologist decides whether one is appropriate, and our pharmacists will walk you through how to use it.

Low Testosterone: Getting Tested and Treated

Low testosterone (testosterone deficiency) can cause low sex drive, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, loss of muscle, and low mood. The AUA guideline on testosterone deficiency uses a total testosterone level below 300 ng/dL as a reasonable cutoff, and asks for two separate early-morning blood tests before a diagnosis is made. Symptoms alone are not enough, and a single low reading is not enough either. If you suspect low T, ask your urologist about morning testing.

Once diagnosed, treatment is a long-term commitment, and the guideline recommends rechecking testosterone levels every 6 to 12 months while on therapy. Pharmaconic carries the standard options:

  • Testosterone cypionate injection (200 mg/mL, 10 mL vial), generic Depo-Testosterone
  • Testosterone 1.62% gel (75 g pump), generic AndroGel
  • Anastrozole 1 mg tablets (generic Arimidex), which some urologists prescribe alongside testosterone to manage estrogen

Pay no more than $68 per month for testosterone injection or gel, with no prior authorization.

Other Urology Prescriptions We Fill

The same $24 for 30 tablets pricing applies across our urology formulary, so patients on more than one medication can plan their monthly cost.

Pricing, Delivery, and How to Get Started

Predictable pricing. Pharmaconic accepts most insurance plans. Because not every plan covers urology medications, and because prior authorizations can delay treatment for days, we offer flat cash pricing on the medications above: no more than $24 for 30 tablets, and no more than $68 per month for testosterone injection or gel. Compounded preparations are not covered by insurance; call us for affordable cash pricing on Trimix, alprostadil, films, and troches.

Free delivery within 24 hours. Once your urologist sends the prescription, we call you to schedule delivery, and your medication arrives at your home or office within 24 hours of confirmation. ED and testosterone prescriptions are packaged discreetly.

Pharmacist consultations. Our pharmacists are available to review how and when to take your medication, what to avoid (for example, nitrates with sildenafil or tadalafil), and how to apply testosterone gel safely.
