After a transplant, it is very crucial to take medications to prevent rejection of your new organ and to fight infection. Rejection occurs when the body recognizes the new organ as a threat. Immunosuppressant medications help prevent the immune system from attacking the new organ. Immediately following transplant, immunosuppressants will be given and overtime the dosages may change.
